"I have been working for years to promote a responsible energy policy that works to increase energy efficiency and invest in alternative and renewable energy sources."

Welcome Message

John McKeon, Mayor WO

As an elected official and as a father I have made a personal and professional commitment to protect the environment in any way that I am able. Reducing and reversing the affects of global warming is the right thing to do for our town, state, country and for the future for our children on this earth. As your Mayor, I called for an energy conservation program that would reduce the municipality’s energy consumption by 20%. The West Orange Energy Diet is a comprehensive energy conservation program begun on January 1, 2007 as a grassroots, town wide campaign, to create a culture of conservation in the municipality which includes the efforts of residents, businesses, schools and the administration.

A s part of the Energy Diet program the Township of West Orange is
working diligently in an effort to purchase the latest in recycling bins.
The aesthetically designed and hard to break bins will be placed in
West Orange parks, schools and stadium in an effort to promote recycling.
As Mayor John McKeon said in his State of the Township address on
January 24th, “through our commingling program we have reduced our
solid waste tonnage by 4%. In the spring of 2008 we will do even better by
placing permanent recycling bins in all public parks and in other key spots
in our community. Like the light bulbs before them, they will be sponsored
by local businesses and will reflect West Orange’s concern for the environ-
ment permanently.”
The bins weigh no more than 30 lbs; however, they have the capacity of
holding over a thousand cans and bottles.
These recycling kiosks are made out of heavy duty, but lightweight
plastic. And there’s more. Not only will they echo the Township’s “green”
state of mind, but they will accurately represent its love for the arts. A
portion of the bins will feature modern humorous and colorful designs
painted by local artists, Some of these blank bins will be painted by
West Orange’s own junior artists: its school children!
Get ready! Recycling in West Orange will never be the same again!
